My mother-in-law came to visit, and really liked my CS Kukri machete. Since I have two, I gave her the new one as a gift. (you know you have a good relation with your mother-in-law when you can safely give her a knife as a gift.) That same week I went to a gun show looking for another CS Kukri machete. I could not find one, but haggled my way into a Kabar kukri machete for $30.00. :) I've been eyeing it for a while and at that price...

I have not been able to use Kabar yet, but these are my impressions so far. The handle on the Kabar is a lot more confortable. Shapewise, the CS is modeled after their LTC Kukri and its blade is about 1.5 inches longer than the kabar. The Kabar has a strange look to it, like it is somehow a compressed image of a Kukri. Personally, I like the shape of the CS better.

The Kabar has a 6 inch false edge on the front part of the spine that I think can come in handy on the field. It is also about 6 ounces heavier and a little thicker than the CS . This that gives the Kabar a 'more solid' feel to it.

The CS is made of 1055 and the kabar of 1085. I wonder if the Kabar could be a little too hard if I hit a rock by accident (which is bound to happen.)

Does anyone has any experience with these two machetes? In your oppinion, how do they compare?

I've used both. I found that the CS had a little more reach and swung more smoothly than the Ka-bar. It did a better (read, quicker) job on lighter brush and growth that required more of a horizontal swing. Hope that makes sense. The Ka-Bar seemed better for chopping chores and cuts requiring a vertical swing.
