Just picked up one of those kabar kydex type sheaths. I was camping and put my blade right through the cheap as leather one that came with it. I figured while its out I would compare it to my MK 2 sheaths. Boy it is really big. A little too big for what is needed. OAL is about the same and that's where it ends. The nylon webbing while very wide is quite thin and makes unsnaping the retaing snap almost a 2 handed ordeal. Next. The cross guard retaining system seams to be a fairly good one, although a little big. It does a pretty good job of holding the knife in. Now the sheath itself. WOW it it oversized !! It's a good 1/2 inch wider than my mk2 sheath. It's got more tie downs than a C -130. I'm former Army and Navy vet and never needed more than the belt loop to hold any of my knives. One thing I noticed was the kabar sheath will also dull your edge if you do not pay attention to how you remove and replace your knife. What's with that silly plastic buckle ? Are you supposed to carry it on a drop leg rig. It belongs on your belt or your tactical vest. Preferably one in each location is better for combat duty. With all that said its a hell of a lot better than that cheap shit pleather one it comes with. I just wish they would ship these US made knives with a desent sheath. Better yet have someone make a sheath just like the original MK2 s came with. Just my .02.
