Kabar Major Repair

Hi all, long time lurker on this forum here.

My dad has an old kabar from his scouting days that has seen much better days. After 20 years of living in a box, the leather handle has turned flaky and much of the knife is rusty and dull.

I have no idea where to start the fixing process and how to go about doing so. Could anyone please provide suggestions on what I can perhaps begin to do?

Wow that's gonna take some work! It's totally doable though... Contact kabar they will sell you a kit new washers and a new pommel and guard even! Great price too iirc....

Fantastic patina on that thing, no way Id polish it or do any more than oil it.

......... and just do the rebuild kit from Ka-Bar.
