All of my outdoor knives are Kabars, but this is the only one that isn't a Becker. It's also my favorite mid-sized. Whether or not it stays that reamains to be seen until the BK-16 production model is released (Apr 1st.....riiiiiiiight??)

Anyway...

This knife is still like a sister to my Beckers. Anyway, in another thread someone posted their sheath mods, and it gave me an idea. So here's how mine turned out: The Kabar Navy MkI Bushcrafter...dangler version using climbing rated biner (puts the knife at natural hand level), kydex firesteel loop, and Gobspark Ranger firesteel with shock cord retention. I also removed the upper retention strap (two points is plenty) and the plastic strap-thingie, which I have no idea what it was even supposed to do.

I really need to just get one of these things already. I have been eyeing the leather handled MK1 for awhile now but I just dont have the funds! I even thought about selling my ESEE 3 for it. Anyways, thats a great idea on that sheath and the knife looks awesome stripped!

The carbiner looks dumb on it, however I like it for the arms length reach, and especially if you are wearing any sort of jacket, it puts it below the jacket for easy access. You can also tuck it in your front pocket so only the butt sticks out in case you need to not scare the sheep.

I am constantly trying to not scare the sheep. And I dont think it looks dumb.

So I'm sitting here looking at my MK1 right here, and I'm wondering what in the world that plastic thing is on the belt loop. It looks to ME like what I would usually use to adjust the length of webbing on say... a backpack strap. But am having a hard time figuring what it is supposed to be use for on a knife sheath.

Any thoughts?

C_Tanner/ocnLogan,

That plastic "thingee" is a strap extender. It is used by Military personnel to drop the knife/sheath combo down to the thigh. Knives/sheaths on the belt is not the best location for everyone.
Hope this helps.
