I've never had a fixed knive for hunting and general camping use
to wear on my belt in a sheath
and was kinda drawn to the advertising for this knife here.

For those that know about these kinds of knives, does
this seem like a good value and quality compared to others
on the market that have a similar mission ?

First thing I wouldn't order it from those guys. But I am going to be getting one pretty damm soon and the Ka-Bar is famous for a reason. As to hunting and general camping use it will do what you want.

I think KaBar gives good value for the money.
I think this design would work for "general camping".

Depends on what you mean by "hunting knife". IMO there are better designs for skinning and cleaning game.

I have had one of these for about fifteen years, and its taken a lot of abuse. It`s great for an all around camp knife, but for hunting, I carry a smaller knife. It`s difficult to clean small game with the big K-bar.

I have my Dad's from the USN in the So. Pacific in WWII - and several new ones from the current owners. They appear equal in quality today - possibly better steel. EABCO is a fine bunch to do business with - I have bought a few scopes, etc, from them, as they are predominantly a firearms accessory source. The price is not bad - but Smokey Mountain usually has them for that or even less at times. Definitely a piece of history. Search 'Youtube' for a video destroying a new KaBar.

Now... hate to say this, but a better camping/hunting knife - with it's own tradition - is available at most Wally Worlds - the also 'Made in USA' Buck 119 'Special'. It's a phenolic handled/Al pummel & guard 6" bladed (420HC blade) that comes with either a nylon or leather sheath for ~$34 there. Unlike the KaBar, which is decently sharp, the 119s I've seen are 'scarey-sharp' - and will retain that edge a bit longer than the cs blade of the KaBars.
