Kabar style, but with a sharpened top swedge

I tend to like knives in the 5"-7" blade size, similar in format to a Ka-Bar, but I like the sharpened swedge.

I suppose I could sharpen a Ka-Bar, but I think I'd just make it look ugly by the time I was done - I would just make a mess of the finish on the blade.

What other options are there that I should look at?

I do haveca Randall on order, and own a blackjack model 7. As I said, I can't quite bring myself to destroy a Ka-Bar.

Does the Buck 119 have a sharpened clip or swedge? It's about the same size and price as a Kabar.

Ontario used to have the same kabar with a sharpened swedge option, the 498, think it was called......., but not anymore since it's been sold and shut down. ya might find a used one out there though......

Boru's option is the least expensive & easiest option. Don't forget to check your local laws before strapping it on your belt and leaving the house.

Most companies don’t sharpen the top swedge because it isn’t legal everywhere.

Even my Randall swedges aren’t shaving sharp and have no edge bevel.

The KA-BAR is pretty close to sharp. I’d hit one with a ceramic rod if I were you. It won’t take much effort.

I read somewhere that the sharpened swedge puts it in the category of a dagger, but that could have been just Internet bluster.

The older KA-BAR F/U knives (think 90's and before, with the low primary grind) came from the factory with a sharpened swedge. Certainly someone is selling one in good shape somewhere.

I always avoid gray areas if i can. Always leave yourself in a defendable position.

I always wondered about tantos? Is a tanto double edged?

i used to own a kabar that i’d sharpened the swedge on, have since given it to my youngest son otherwise i’d post a picture. it wasn’t too difficult, just did it in my sharpmaker without too much trouble
