Kabar vs Camiillus vs Ontario

What kind of tasks will the knife be performing?
Most likely the best performer will be the Ka-Bar 1281 because of its D2 steel, very tough steel.

Ka-Bar.

I like Camillus knives a lot, but the design of their USMC knife doesn't fit my hand as well as the Ka-Bar, it's too thin maybe.

But if you want a knife of that size and general design and want an Ontario, get a RAT-7. It has a little more ergonomic handle made from micarta and either a 1095 or D2 blade. I'm thinking about replacing my Ka-Bar for camping with the RAT-7 (and it'll look good next to my RTAK).

One member some time back did a comparison review of the Kabar and Camillus Marine Combat knives. He found that the Camillus was the better edge-holder. Also, the parkerized finish on the Camillus knife was more durable than the enamel finish on the Kabar. He did not include the Ontario version in his tests, but I would expect it to be the worst, given Ontario's reputation for spotty heat treatments.

Camillus has a reputation for doing consistently good quality work. I guess that is why a lot of other knife companies subcontract to them.

The tasks are campinng tasks like(no order) cutting food, using it on game animal, cutting wood and any gener camp chores. Note: I am not asking for a heavy chopper.
