I just recently picked up a Kabar warsword as my "large knife". I thought it had a lot o potential but I am not really sure about it now. The edge came rather dull for my liking and I've had a bunch of trouble getting it sharp enough. I did a few mods to it including stripping, grapefuit patina, and filed in a riccassa/choil to allow me to do intricate work.

Anyone have any tips? I tried filing to make the blade more convex/scandi in nature, but that didn't cut it. It's pretty sharp but not sharp enough.

I'm hoping that it makes up for its difficulty to sharpen easily with its chopping power. If not, I may have to check out some of the Condor models.

Sounds like we are going to need some pics of those mods to give you some real advice.

What is difficult about sharpening? The shape of the blade, or do you find the steel itself not getting an edge the way you like? What are you using to sharpen, and how did you go about making your convex/scandi?

i have been wanting a warsword,i bought a kabar 1248 cutlass,it"s cool,just not what i wanted,i want a thinner blade.not as wide,would like to have a bk9 or a rd9 too,more money,my goodness,i even want a tomahawk know.guess i might try the trade forum.

It's a nice knife and it was fun customizing it, but I dont see myself using it. Think I am going to sell this.
