I just bought a Kabar Warthog (1247) and decided to test it by chopping a piece of firewood in half.

After about 6 wacks, a big chunk of the edge broke off. I know that it has a fairly thin profile but I figured in a survival situation you might need to do something similar.

I did this with a spec plus marine combat (handle became loose), a cold steel recon scout and a cold steel carbon V ODA with no damage at all to the blades.

Did I get a bad one or just expect to much and completely misuse it?
If I did expect to much of the Warthog, what is it for?

Man, if you cant do a little light chopping with a folder you got for hard use

Knife =sucks=dumpster.

I know , Im a lot of help :D Re;;y chopping seems hard on a folder but I know I have a few that LIKE it!

Surely others will be more help. ;)

Well... I use an ax for chopping... knives for slicing, mostly. While an ax can be used for slicing (awkwardly), and a big enough knife for chopping if yuou have to, it's best to use the right tool for the job, imho. In the northern boreal forest, most wood is too hard for knives to be efficient chopping tools; maybe it's different in different ecosystems. :D

I had the same problem, but I was chopping a piece of wood in the south-eastern area. I'd bought my Ka-Bar only for a few days at that time.
