Im looking for a big chopper, I dont NEED one I just want one. It wouldn't see much heavy use if much use at all. The reasons I'm looking at the kabar, I like the shape, price, and the green handles are a plus. The reason I'm considering the junglas, well, its an esee and its pretty similar in size.

Would anyone like to give some input on this? Anyone have any experience with the Kabar?

Well, I don't actually seem them as being very similar blades, not that its a bad thing, but I wouldn't generally compare them. The Pestilence is more like a small machete (in fact, it was designed after a WW2 folding machete), while the Junglas is a large heavy chopping style knife. The Junglas should outweigh the Pestilence, and so it it should chop better. I've never seen them in a head to head comparison though.

The Pestilence is made from SK5 (basically like 1085), is .2in thick, and appears to have a FFG. The Junglas is made out of 1095 IIRC, with a saber grind?

Have you looked at the Becker BK9? Its more similar to the Junglas, and is in between the other twos price, and is a pretty sweet blade, especially for the money.

if the kabar is .2 inch thick i think the esee is .188" thick. so the kabar would be thicker it seems. not lighter than the esee. the kabar seems to be single purpose though and that would be chopping, where the esee might be more usable in other roles. neither imo would be great all round camp knives, but more the chopper and then you would need a second knife for cutting tasks. if all your going to need it for is chopping the kabar might be the better deal. certainly at the price you could have 2 of them and have change left over for another knife.

I vote ESEE, my dad has one that I've used some and I really like it, will probably end up getting one down the road, its more expensive, but I feel you're paying for higher quality.

If I understand correctly, the Junglas and BK9 are larger knives vertically , so they might actually have more mass behind them. Plus they are thinner (.188), so they might "bite" more.

Personally, I'd go with the BK9 if I were you.

Quite incorrect in many areas...
I have both.
The Junglas is considerably heavier, as it is far wider and has a different grind.
The Junglas outchops the Pestilence Chopper by a country mile...no comparison at all.
The Junglas makes a great all-round camp knife. If you think you'd need a complimentary blade, you haven't used one.
The Junglas will be way tougher.
For chopping, get the Junglas.
For "all-roundedness", get the Junglas.
For toughness, get the Junglas.
For a better sheath, get the Junglas (although the pouch on the Kabar sheath is useful:)).

For an affordable and cool mini-machete, get the Pestilence Chopper.
