What do you use yours for?

I recently ordered one from Uncles
new shopping site, I think I might
use it for field dressing small game.
Wisconsin deer season starts this weekend
might have to try it on a Turty-Pointer ;)

I haven't used mine for much other than opening mail, but it is hardened the full length of the edge, and some buffing puts it in the "scary" category. I think it would make a fine bird or small game knife. If the Cairn keeps sniffing my scabbards, I may test it out as a skinner

I'm using mine to learn how to sharpen stuff. I'm at the point where I can cut warm butter. :(

Ditto! Plus, they don't scare people as bad. :)

Are you young'ens gettin' a burr all along one side of the edge before going to the other side?
If you're not then you're defeating your purpose and spinnin' your wheels.;)

There's been a couple of guys around these parts that finally got that through their widdle bitty punkin ha-id's and now are on the way to actually getting some decent edges. :D
Makes me proud!!!!;) :D

I like my little AK too. Great little knife that hides out well. And if I keep gettin much fatter I will have a new place to hide it.

(under my belly flap.) :D

I figgered that would get a few.<VBESEG>:p

(If you can't laugh at yourself then you don't have a sense of
humor.); o <wink>

I had a burr... but it seemed that after I had straightened it out, it didn't stay sharp for long. Was it too fine a burr?

Back to the sharpening faq... :o

Bruise the object is too get the burr all along one edge and then the opposite side.
The idea is to get the edge bevel or radius in the case of a convex edge right down to the edge.
After you get this you have to get very light handed to get the burr off without breaking it off. If the burr breaks off the edge the knife won't get or be sharp and you have to start over.
If you don't get the burr off completely the very 1st time you touch the edge to something it rolls over the edge and is dull.
Hang on there you will get it.:)

I think one would be in serious trouble if one could hide a chitlangi under the belly fat :) :D

How high should the burr be? A hair or so high?

Maybe instead of cutting things I should be beating things apart with the spine. I wouln't have to learn how to sharpen things that way :D

Yes. You should just be able to feel it with the edge of a fingernail.
And sometimes it takes a little practice. I can feel a burr when some others can't.:)
It's easier if you have just trimmed your nails too. that way they're not rounded off, unless of course you're one of those people who chew their fingernails off to the quick. :barf: ;)

And one could hide a 12" Chitlangi there, Easily!!!!:p :D

After A LOT of practice I can finally put an edge on a knife that will take a few hairs off. I am still working on the scary sharp edge though. I found that lightly drawing the chakma (I hardened one of mine with a blow torch style cigarette lighter) over the burr gives a pretty decent edge. I, still, have quite a bit of room for improvement.

If you REALLY want to learn how to get a knife SHARP...get a JKM and go with the single bevel.

OH YEAH!!! :D

I got my kagas katne yesterday. The kagas has a nice horn handle. I think I'll borrow my cousin's Hooflex and give it a good coating. The scabbard is an attractive black with the frog secured by a nail or pin. A couple of years ago I bought two kagas katnes for relatives and the frogs on those were loose. I guess in addition to the finest khukuris, Birghorka is now making the finest kagas katnes in the world. ;)

I'm planing to make a Christmas tree ornament out of it this year. IIRC a few forumites have done the same before. I think it'll make a pretty decoration.

Its been a busy week for me, so I'm only now finding the time to make out the check to Uncle for the kagas.

The sarkis found some patent leather somewhere and decided they should use it on a few kagas katnes. I hate the stuff but what do I know.

Just got mine today and can't begin to tell you how impressed I am with it! It's not some tourist trinket, it's a really well made little knife worth far, far more than its price.
Uncle, I agree with you about patent leather, but it's just my personal taste; the patent should serve very well.
What a great deal!

Thanks for report from the field, Art.

Sher would probably still be with us if he hadn't had to make 2 or 3 hundred kagas katnes as his first assignment. I don't think he ever forgave us for that.

The postal service has decided to be mean and not get my kagas katne to me yet. I ordered one to tide me over til my next full size khukri purchase, but now it looks like the big one has a chance of getting here first!

When you combine the holiday season with anthrax the results are not good. I look for a lot of problems this year.
