I picked up a Kahr P380 the other day and I absolutely love it. I've carried a .380 for over a decade now and it fills a definate requirement for me.

The Colt Pony Pocketlite has been the "American Express" gun for me for quite some time. I bought one in the mid 90's, then bought a second one when I found out they stopped making them. A couple of years later I bought one that had been customized by Scott, McDougal and Associates of the old .380.com. I thought that was the best pocket carry gun - period. It has a melt job, XS Big Dot sights, trigger job, the works.

Why then did I look at the Kahr? Well to start off I've had a PM9 for about a year. It replaces my SMA Pony in my pocket about half the time. When I bought it I compared it to the .380 back and forth for a while and decided to go with the 9. It was the Kahr's trigger that convinced me. I shoot my PM9 better than I shoot my Pony.

Now that I've picked up the P380 there will be no looking back. It is by far the best .380 out there. I have a Seecamp .32 and I like the Kahr better. I've shot a friends Keltec P3AT and there is no comparison.

I put a hundred WWB flat nose fmj rounds through it on the first trip to the range and there wasn't a single hiccup. I hit the rails with a little Mil-Tech lubricant and it sailed through the ball ammo. I then took about 30 miss matched .380 rounds and loaded them up. Glasers, Magtech, Hydra Shocks, Corbons you name it I fired it. Again not a single hiccup.

There have been many times that I have suffered "buyer's remorse" after my first trip to the range with a new gun. Not this time.

How does it get any better? The Kahr fits my Pony pocket holsters!

I absolutely love this gun. I may put a set of XS Big Dot sights on it in the future and will probably play around with a Hogue Hand All and maybe I will put a grip extension on one of my magazines but that will be it. This gun is good to go out of the box.

Thanks for the review. I'm seriously considering picking up one of these. The main thing holding me back is price. How much did the Kahr set you back?

What kind of groups are you seeing off hand at 25 yards? I know 25 yards is a long range for a pocket pistol, but I know I can get decent groups with my J frame S&W's and my Beretta Tomcat.

I'm a big fan of the Kahr (thanks Sifu for guiding me). I might have to get the .380 version. Soon I've have one in every caliber!

but at 7 yards I shot a clover leaf with it. Any discussion about accuracy with this little gun would be about my marksmanship and not the accuracy of the P380.

There is a youtube video of a man hitting gongs at 25 and 50 yards with it. I'm sure that accuracy wise it'll get the job done. It has a match grade Walther barrel in it if I'm not mistaken.

I paid about $560 for it when all was said and done. It is a gun that I will carry and use daily so I don't think it was too bad.

My pocket gun is a custom NAA .32 but Ive been thinking about the Kahr .380. I own a K9 and K40 and I love them...phenomenal guns. The MK9 almost makes the .380 obsolete, doesnt it?

The .380 is smaller in all dimensions and is less than twice the weight. 9.9 ounces vs 22 ounces.

I wonder why the .380 is so much lighter than the 9mm? I like to have at a minimum a 9mm but everyone has their personal preference. I have a Kahr MK9 that just sits here because it is so heavy. I carry a Keltec PF9 with the built in clip everywhere with me just because of it's light weight and how easy it is to carry IWB with the clip. Don't even need to worry about a holster and the clip was the original reason I got the gun. I have since found the clip draw and need to check out one of their universal mounts and maybe the Kahr will get some carry. However, since it is all metal I'm not too sure about having it up against my skin on the hot summer days we have here in Florida. The Keltec is polymer and the slide is parkerized so I don't worry as much plus I got it for under $300 out the door with the clip so it is pretty cheap which doesn't hurt for a carry piece that is going to get banged around. I haven't had any problems with it yet so it helps it goes bang every time I pull the trigger.

They do make some nice compact .380. Do they make a +p ammo? I guess I need to look at some ballistic charts again to see how newer ammo compares as I wouldn't mind carrying a back up that I could hand off to my fiance as I'm not sure I can actually get her to carry her own. She likes to shoot but actually carrying it around is another story.

Sorry for the tangent.

Kahr all steel construction does make for a stout package...I guess I forgot about that when making my comparison. I may have to go give the .380 a look when I get back to the states. Dont know if I will actually blow the cash to replace my .32, though.

It wasn't the best comparison but it was what you mentioned. Kahr makes polymer 9mm and .40 in a smaller package then the pistol you mentioned. The .380 is still slightly smaller though. The lighter/smaller are the PM9 and PM40. I have the PM40. It isn't all that fun to shoot, imo, but carries quite well.
