I know some have shot the Kahr PM9 but has anyone shot a PM40 and a PM9?

I ask because my local shop has a PM40 in stock and no PM9s (which is what I wanted at first). Kinda weird almost all the 9mm is sold out in Glock too but tons of 40 cal in stock. I wonder if it is due to ammo prices...

The Kahr seems like a pretty small firearm for the 40 cal. I have a Sig 229 in 40 cal. But that caliber put in a PM40...yikes! or not so much?

i have shot P9's, PM9's and a P40 covert which has the short grip of the PM & the longer bbl of the P series stuff, and i seem to do better with the 9MM's as far as poly kahrs go, not that the .40 is bad, and not that the recoil is excessive, it just seems like i shoot the 9MM better for some reason, a little better and a little faster, but its no big deal i dont think, if i couldnt use good 9MM ammo (ie ranger or gold dot) i would go with a .40.

but, with good ammo, i do prefer the 9MM poly kahrs vs the .40's, would like to try a .P45 though when i get a chance.

as far as PM9 vs P9 i can shoot my P9 as well as any 9MM i have & i have a few, glocks, SIG's, walthers and berrettas.

of them all the P9 is probably my favorite to shoot, the PM9 is my fav to carry, but a P9 isnt bad in the carry dept either, but the PM9 is a little smaller and liter & easier to carry, a little harder to shoot well too, so its a compromise i suppose.

I have and used to carry a PM9. Its pretty snappy, being so small and light, so for me I'm guessing that the .40 would be a little too much in such a light weight pistol. Especially in a defensive situation when follow-up shots come into play. There have to be some PM9s floating around out there, so if thats what you want, you should hold out for it IMO.

I haven't shot the pm40, but I got my wife a pm9. She shoots it very well. I was afraid the 40 may be a little too "snappy" for her. 9mm, of course, is as small as I would want to go on a defensive weapon.

I got mine from http://www.floridagunexchange.com/

They shipped it to a local FFL for transfer. You may check with them.

Oddly, I shot the PM-40 and didn't find it all that bad. It actually seemed less snappy than the 9mm. Maybe load selection at work here.

You lose a round, but it IS a bigger bullet. If you choose your loads carefully (standard pressure) then you should be as fine with a .40 as you would've been with the 9mm.

.

I like my P9 and am very happy with it's accuracy and comfort level. The recoil on the .40 I shot (don't know what ammo) was bad enough for me that I didn't think I would practice enough with it.

YMMV

I have a MK9 which is the steel version and I love it. I have shot the PM9 and besides a bit more recoil than the MK9 I liked it. 40 Cal is just not my thing.

ive shot both, and both are pretty jumpy.

i find i have to readjust my grip after every one or two shots. i also own a p40 which requires me to do the same thing every 3-4 shots. also true of my lcp.

but, little gun, short grip, relatively big round, i wouldnt expect anything else.

dont forget its gonna depend on the ammo too, a +p or +P+ 9mm is gonna be as snappy as a .40, probably, at least a .40 with std pressure ammo, my bud shoots cor bon IIRC +P .40 in his P40 covert and it does recoil a tad more, imho its mostly just louder though.

i suppose i should add too i have been shooting .45ACP's since i was barely a teen & a lot of magnum stuff too lately(ie .454 casull, .500 S&W, 44 mag) so nothing in 9MM or .40 really recoils much to me, lol, not to an unpleasent degree anyway, to me its more the torqueing, the gun shifting in your hand as the pistol gets smaller & the calibre gets bigger.

of course it was an eye opener to shoot my buds scandium S&W "J" frame snub in .357 mag with some remington 125gr JHP magnum loads, now that was unpleasant, 10X worse than a kahr in 9MM or .40, i would imagine worse than a kahr P45 too.

has anyone shot a kahr P45 yet? heard they now make a PM version of that which i would think would be a handfull.

I have a Kahr CW 45. I like it very much. Comfortable to shoot with Brooks A-Grips on it.

I have a PM40.. I REALLY like it!... Recoil is not bad at all for me, and its incredibly accurate for such a small gun. I have a Glock 27 and its fine, but its alot chunkier and harder to conceal. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend th PM40.

Powernoodle, is that a keltec .380? How do you like it compared to the other two?

I'm not Powernoodle, but Morimotom is correct: that's the Keltec P-11 in 9mm.

It holds 10+1 and can use S&W 5900 series 15 shot magazines.

The trigger pull is just this side of "horrendous." Ok, there are worse triggers out there, but few are heavier. If you think you're going to rapid fire a full mag, come shot 7 or 8, your trigger finger slows down a LOT...

For what it is, it's a fine gun, but I'd choose my G26 or P-9 long before I grab my P-11

Thanks! Are all Kel-Tec triggers "horrendous"?

Good to hear.

Recoil is rather a genetics issue, meaning it is better absorbed if you have large hands. :)

I have suitably manly hands but seem a bit short. In fact, I find my finger length to be equal to the average American woman's hand/finger length.

I have a Glock 21, but with my stubby fingers and a bit of chronic hand sweat, I notice a bit of slippage with the more powered rounds.

So in conclusion, do you have big hands?

I dont have huge hands but probably bigger than average.. I think the recoil is very manageable though for such a small gun.

no, but none are what i would call "great" either.

i have had a few KT's and while they are ok for thye $$, and with practice ya can get used to the triggers, the triggers arent anything like say a kahr.

The really like the PM9. My wife loves hers and I plan on getting one for myself as soon as I have the funds. It makes for a good carry weapon and the quality seems to be above average.

So I have an idea of what that statement means, what is an average quality example?
