Hi there,

I happened to see this on the Williams-Sonoma website:

[LINK REMOVED]

(search for "kai folding knife")

Looks very familiar, no? I spoke to a rep at Kai/Shun who confirmed it was VG10 steel, and just the rebranded gentleman's knife, great price too.

It comes in a gift box, no leather sheath. Also the pivot seems to be stainless and brass on the one I'm holding. Also says "China" on the blade.

Can anyone confirm that this is the same as the 1993-2?

Hope I didn't break any rules with the link...

William sonoma isn't a paid dealer, you'll have to remove the link.
Paid dealers:

I'd rather get a speedform.
But here's a picture of the knife.

if it is made in china I have serious doubts about it being VG-10, the 1993-10 wasn't a Shun knife, it was kershaw branded.

It says "Kai" on one side of blade. On the side w/out nail nick, says "model DM0905 China".

On the product identification sticker on bottom of gift box, it says "Kai folding picnic knife" "Made in Japan".

It's certainly the same design, and definitely micarta handles, good F&F.

I'm just looking for confirmation on the steel being VG10, as the CSR I spoke with seemed a little upset by my asking such a specific question, and frankly didn't really seem to know what she was talking about.

Given the price point and where it's made, I would suspect the blade is not VG-10. Same question came up in this thread just a couple months back.

They've discontinued the Speedform II, but you can still get them for around $75. Beautiful gentleman's folder with Elmax blade.

I have a 1993-2 Gentlemen's Folder and Kershaw is stamped on one side and 1993-2 VG10 Japan is stamped on the other. This is really a great piece and is done to perfection.
