So I have a Shun Premier 8 inch chefs knife that I do 90% of my work with. I have a hodge podge of other kitchen knives from the cheapest no name china knives to some older mid to low grade knives. I was thinking about trying the KAI Komachi knives to support the Shun, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them and their "Coated carbon stainless steel"

I have the bagel/sandwich knife. I like it for what it is. Haven't tried any of the other knives in the line though, nor do I intend to. Well, maybe as knives to take camping or something like that.

dude you want to compliment the shun., buy one of these and you'll be happy. at the price buy 2. i allowed some folks to use my expensive chef knife occasionally. yet, i never allowed anyone to use My one piece stainless Chinese chopper. http://www.webstaurantstore.com/town-47311-12-1-2-heavy-blade-stainless-steel-cleaver/88547311.html

it will be the best 10 u ever spent. all of them are basically the same, i ordered from a local distributor years ago that got them form nyc,, but twice the price of course.

This cleaver is found thorough out most of the Hainanese Chicken rice hawker stalls locally. They love it. Grandma had it for years before the handle gave way.
Grandpa used it for splitting chicken bones and prying durians!:D

I have several of the Kai knives and find them to be very useful. I like the thin blades. I tend to use them in preference to my German chef's knives. They seem to hold an edge quite well. Oh yes, they are a bargain!

So do you eat the durain fruit. i know my fave Chinese mkt sells them. but they are so freaking huge. i don't want to buy it and then trash it if i don't like it.
i rather someone else have it and then get a taste that way lol.

Depends on what you fancy- i've heard comments about them tasting like poop to pure heaven.

I ended up getting a set of 8 knives for about $70. They seem like they will work. The blades are very thin, and while stamped, they seem better than the other mix match of stamped chinese made knives I had. They are adequately sharp, but I might touch them up on the edge pro.
