I have searched. I am not able to find out a whole lot though. I guess I missed it, and if somebody could just give me the small factual story, I would love it.

I get that they are gone, for whatever set of reasons. I still own a lot of ZT stuff, and like it. KAI has always been known for making good pruducts, and backing them even better. Has everybody thrown them to the wolves? Are they hated, and no not spoken of? Just curious guys, I am NOT trolling, not looking for a fight. Thanks for the info.

IBTL...

This has been discussed ad nauseum. They all get locked.

The subforum is in the archives, I suggest you go look there instead of kicking the hornet's nest again.

From my outsiders perspective, the constant trolling/whining about the elmax edge retention issue seems to have annoyed their forum representative (the one required for them to have a forum here) into leaving. I'm sure it was just the biggest of several reasons, but that one seems to stand out the most in my mind...

I was more in reference to everybody's stance, after the whole deal. Are they now "fallen from grace" so to speak? Not loved or talked about anymore? I am talking more about a company, and their products. Not some f&^%$ng purse fight, between some people.

Pretty sure the opinion about their knives is unchanged. Disappointment in them for pulling out? Ehh... maybe.

I'm not trying to troll, but anybody who would let KAI leaving BF affect their decision to purchase KAI's product is a fool.

Was that really it? Do people really complain that much about Elmax not being hardened "optimally"? If I recall, Spyderco's VG-10 and ZDP-189, both of which they famous for, are treated slightly soft to prevent chipping, but no one ever complains about that. I always thought the point of having ZTs was to have a big knife that was tough as nails, and cutting performance a lower priority.

Is it strange that my response to the title of this thread was "NO! NOT THE RIPCORD I LOVE THAT ONE!"

Seriously though, Kai just felt like it, it doesn't effect my intent to purchase any of their fine products.

Does it suck they left? Sure. Does it matter in the long run? Probably not no.

ZT is producing a torrent of knives with great design, materials, quality and backs them with excellent customer service. The recent limited editions have been outstanding and at custom levels.

Personally, that's all that matters.

The Kai fans still post a lot in general. A quick search will show recent conversations.

Most of my knife money goes to KAI. The reason they shut down the sub forum is because of all the nitpickers and complainers. They have probably the best customer support and warranty department in the business. How many companies will send you clips, screws, pivots, and washers for free? All this while being made right here in the USA. Call me a fanboy, call me whatever you want, I'm just impressed with KAI as a whole.

I agree completely. I have bought and traded, to get about 1500 bucks worth the ZT's in the last month. I like them, and like their overbuilt stature. I will continue on buying.

Search around a bit on all of BF, not just their old subforum. They shut down a few years ago as well. Must be something in the blade steel...

Seriously, it has NOTHING to do with their products. Still one of the finest knife companies around. Their products are good to excellent, and their customer service is second to none.

According to the tracking number, my newest Kershaw will be delivered tomorrow!

Robert

It's disappointing that KAI gave up on their forum because of a few complaints. You can't make a product that pleases everyone, there will always be those who will complain and criticize. I'm sure KAI knows that. So I don't understand why the KAI rep would abandon the 99% who really loved that forum because of the 1% who felt they had to let everyone know all of their issues. Post a link to refer to, close the thread, and move on.

I'll be honest, I too wasn't all that impressed with KAI's Elmax. After the fact I did a bit of reading and I figured they went conservative on the HT because they had a similar view that Emerson Knives has with their products. A dull knife is still a knife, a broken knife is useless. Nothing wrong with that.

Discussion of Kershaw products is welcome.
Speculations on why their forum was closed, however, is not.

IF they indeed closed because of commentary or actions by mannerless individuals, it is their prerogative and right to make that choice.
Any ire then should be directed at those whom made the choice to make them feel unwelcome here.

Thread closed.
