KAI servicing

I want to send in some kershaws and ZTs for servicing and was curious if anyone has sent both in at the same time and if you can just send them to the same address, or if they have different locations depending on the branch. Also curious how their servicing is in general. Sorry if this is the wrong section for this type of inquiry but I'm not sure where else to post this as KAI doesn't have their own manufacturers forum.

Thanks, I was looking into it a bit but I just wanted to be sure and I was trying to get them out right away. I guess it would only make sense for them to go to the same place. Do you guys have any experience with their servicing? I’ve never sent an inexpensive knife in for sharpening but i figured if I’m sending the ZT in then I might as well group them together

They had to replace a scale on my 0770cf once, service was great! The sharpening was not. It was sharp before I sent it in, wasn't as sharp (and near the tip was a bit screwy). I fixed it but lost a little blade in the process.

Seems like they have improved sharpening lately though, as my cf/M390 Bareknuckle came with a good looking edge that is plenty sharp. A little obtuse on the angle still, but not too bad.

Guess we’ll see what happens!! Thank you for all of the info gentleman, I appreciate it greatly

I sent in a knife that the clip had snapped off leaving just the screw shafts in the handle

They fixed it right up and sent it back. Very nice folks

I have a 0609 with them right now. It’s been there longer than expected, maybe 5 weeks now?

I’ll call them if I can ever remember during business hours.

I was curious about their sharpening a few years back and sent them a couple of knives. They came back sharp, but nothing special. IIRC it was 2-3 week turn around, including shipping.

They are behind right now due to the Corona.

I have used their warranty service a few times for Kershaw and Zero Tolerance. I have no complaints.

Beginning of this week I also asked KAI regarding some service for my ZT 0450CF (sharpening, dull out of the box) and ZT 0460 (fine scratches on the blade, new knife).

I was told they do not offer buffing and polishing and for sharpening you have to allow at this moment up to 10 weeks for processing and return delivery. For me even more a problem, as I do not live in the U.S. seems I cannot use any service as I would need to go over my dealer first.

A longer lead time due to COVID-19, absolutely understandable. Not offering services like buffing and polishing, also referring international customers to their dealers, understandable considering every company has its policies. Nevertheless it leaves me with a little difficult impression regarding ZT: Great knives but the offered service doesn´t really match the products, especially considering the prices of their knives. But that´s just me..."!

My Bareknuckle, sent in for a lock bar issue back in March, took almost three months to be returned. If you do send items in make sure you select the tracking option with your carrier. KAI does not confirm receipt of items sent in for repair.

I’ve sent in multiple Kershaws and ZTs to KAI for servicing (mainly blade swaps cuz I’m stupid and pry with my work knives) and I’ve never had an issue ever. They always do a wonderful job of taking care of the issue (whatever it may be) and go the extra step of replacing screws and pocket clips that are looking worse for wear.

They are the best in the industry in my opinion.

What kind of buffing and polishing are you talking about? Blade, handle, and/or hardware? You are not just talking about sharpening, right?

As stated in my first post, I have fine scratches on the blade of my new ZT 0460.
I asked ZT if they could fix this problem, maybe polish the blade and then reapply the original blade finish. The scratches are very fine and run over the full length of the blade perpendicular to the finish. They can only be seen when you hold the knife in a very specific angle to a light source. Okay, just an aesthetic topic, but nevertheless.
Yes, maybe I could send the knife back to the dealer, but that´s also quite a hassle considering that do not live in the United States. Also, as the knife otherwise is flawless (sharpness, function, overall appearance) I do not just want to swap it for another knife where I do not know what I get.

Now I see what you meant. Unfortunately to the best of my knowledge I do not think KAI provides that kind of service, free or for a fee. They do provide blade replacement service for something like $30. Or you can try Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish to remove hairline scratches. Of course this won't be a good idea for blades with coatings or stonewash but should be OK for ZT 0460.
