Kalamazoo belt sander question

Does anyone know if I could get the 2X72 belt sander (motorless) and just use my own grinder motor or does it have to be the kalamazoo motor? Thanks.

It looks like it has a pulley on the side like the 2x48:

You can use any motor with enough HP to drive it and can hold a pulley to hook the belt to, then. I'd say at least 1/2 HP absolute minimum, though 1 HP or more would be much better.

I have that grinder. You can use your own motor but should have at least 1 HP even if Kalamazoo says 1/2HP will do. If you haven't bought the grinder yet, I suggest you shop around. I am not pleased with my grinder. I'll get a better one someday but for now it will have to do.

I have that grinder too. But it is now a surface grinder. The tracking wasn't that good.
