kalashnikov 74 button lock question

Had it - loved it - lost it. The plot of every love story. Ordered a new one. However, the button on the new one is too short and jams every time you try to release the blade. It also has no safety. The slots are there for the sliding safety, but the safety slide is not there. Is this some new design Boker has made into the AK to make the button lock more difficult to open and close or did I just get a bad knife? If this is a new design, Boker has really messed up a good knife and owes me a longer button so it will work. Anyone have the same experience?

My understanding is the changes were made due to a U.S. patent awarded to Benchmade.

I don't know the maker of this video, so judge for yourself.
Here's the link with a little info on Benchmade's (Mentor Group, LLC) lawsuit filed against Boker. I believe Benchmade's claim is that any and all button lock knives with a slide safety falls under this patent. They filed suit against several knife manufacturers.

Wow. Thanks for the info. Problem is... new "go around" doesn't work. Better you stop making the knife rather than make one that fails. Any idea about finding replacement parts?

I think if you send it to Terry at Boker service & repair, he can make it function as intended.
Boker USA, Inc. • 1550 Balsam Street • Lakewood, CO 80214-5917 • USA • Phone 1-800-835-6433 (toll free) • Fax 1-303-462-0668

I believe his email is service@bokerusa.com. (but I'm working from memory so I'm not sure about the email)

Unfortunately there are no replacement parts. As part of the legal agreements with not only Benchmade, but the Customs department, all the changes made are the way the knife has to be. There is no stock on old parts. The button was made recessed to make up for not being able have the safety slide, and also to be more in line with the legalities of a button lock as opposed to a knife that can be easily converted into an automatic.

Thanks Terry for the reply. The problem is, the button is so short, it jams up when it is pushed in far enough to release the blade. In short, it doesn't work. I have always purchased Boker products (for 30 years) with complete confidence. This knife has let me down.
