Hi everyone! I had this posted on Mousel's forum, but since it's still down, thought I'd give it a try here.

Has anyone seen those new Kali Illustrisimo vids put out by Unique? I'm really curious as there isn't alot of info available on Kali Ilustrisimo and those vids look intriguing. I understand the vids feature Christopher Ricketts of Bakbakan Intl.

As an aside, I've ordered a copy of the late Punong Guro Edgar Sulite's "Lameco Eskrima at the Vortex". I've heard great things about it! When I get it, maybe I'll post a review about it, unless any other's on here have already seen it? Input is very welcome!

Peace,

Jay

Haven't seen the videos myself, but training w/Master Topher's really cool! Hardcore. I'd expect them to kick mucho gluteus maximus...but then I'm kinda biased

(Hi Donna!)

Have you see the material on GM Tortal? He was spoken highly by the late Master Sulite, whom worked with him. There's a video out on GM Tortal his introduction to the Dekiti Tirsia Serradas at http://KaliSilat.com/orderccnow.html has a description of the tape also. You'll find information about GM Illustrisimo, of which I have a video on him and of the late Master Sulite that also worked the Serradas.

There's an excellent tape that LionHeart use to produce called "The Contradas" in which you see Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje, Jr. and Grand Tuhon Nene Tortal doing some double sword sayaws, doing espada y daga and then doing a drill among the two of them. Their body mechanics is awesome. I let someone use my tape and have yet to get it back, but if you get a chance to see this tape you won't be disappointed.

Bayani: yeah, from what I've read about Master Ricketts', he's pretty awesome! You've trained with him? Are you a member of Bakbakan Intl.? I have relatives in New Jersey, and was thinking of dropping by the Bakbakan N.J. branch the next time I'm in the area.

Greg: Hello MasGuru! I've checked your website before...love the video clips of the single, double stick, and the empty hand/knife drill. Great stuff! Actually, I had no idea that PG Edgar trained with GM Tortal...fascinating! I am aware that Lameco is composed of several different styles of eskrima, and I remember him mentioning that Pekiti Tersia was one of them. I hope you forgive my lack of knowledge, but I know very little about GM Tortal, I'm a little more familiar with Grand Tuhon Leo T. Gaje. jr.

Stuart: Hi! I'm a big fan of your FCSFH site! Great stuff! Actually, you guy's and the Dog Bros. also, have had a big impact on my kali group here in Canada. We train the drills, techniques, forms, etc., but every once in awhile we head out to the nearest park and 'test' each other. Not something a fella can do all the time, however! LOL!

Yes, I've heard of that series of vids put out by Lionhart, but I guess they aren't available anymore. It's a shame really.

Anyway, thanks for sharing everyone!

Peace,

Jay

Hey, Soulsurfer--yeah, I'm w/Bakbakan, if yr. interested, check out our website at www.bakbakan.com
and, incidentally, where in Canada are you located? There's a Bakbakan training group in Toronto (Scarborough, actually)--excellent bunch of guys, really nice, and they train hardcore Illustrisimo Kali...Be well, dude.

I saw the post about Bakbakan in Canada so I thought I'd respond.

First of I'd like to congrat Adrian the only Canadian rep at the Gathering tourney for taking first place in knife sparring.

Secondly, Ramon Villardo is the Regional Rep here in Toronto. His contact info is on the Bakbakan website.

Thirdly, the video is an excellent source for Kali Illustrisimo. It contains the same material that you would learn in the Philippines from Master Topher and its cheaper than a flight there.

later,

Vince
