I haven't read the state laws for awhile, but can someone refresh my memory a little,

outside l.a. county and s.f. and other b.s. places, its legal to have a folder of any size, right?

someone recently stated that a double edged folder, would be legal, outside the forementioned b.s. counties, (we all know how the misinformation flies 'round here)

but is it true? I always assumed it wasn't but was I reading something that wasn't there into the law, I get confused because of some whatchamacallit bylaw thing superceded the law at some point that nulled the other law (ring a bell to anyone)

I thought there was something very specific about double edged, as is NOT allowed. Or was I reading into the dirk/dagger part.

Anyways can anybody enlighten me.

Asking, cuz if its legal to carry, something like the Gerber Fairbain, that'd be cool.

btw didnt mean to offend anyone calling it a b.s. county.

I Love L.A. no matter what jacked up knife and gun laws we got.

Here's my take on it... I'm not a lawyer, and YMMV.

(24) As used in this section, a "dirk" or "dagger" means a knife
or other instrument with or without a handguard that is capable of
ready use as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injury
or death. A nonlocking folding knife, a folding knife that is not
prohibited by Section 653k, or a pocketknife is capable of ready use
as a stabbing weapon
that may inflict great bodily injury or death
only if the blade of the knife is exposed and locked into position.

As far as I can tell, this is the section of the law that would apply. I don't find any mention in state law about double edged blades. The definition of "dirk or dagger" makes no reference to the blade. It just says a dirk or dagger is something "capable of ready use as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injury or death."

The law then says a folding blade is only a dirk or dagger if the blade is open and locked in position. As long as you are carrying it in your pocket, it is not controlled under the law. (Section 653k talks about switchblades. Interestingly, they are legal if the blade is less than 2"!)

i have never found anything in the penal code, l.a. municipal code, or l.a. county ordinance that states a dagger is a double edged knife of any sort.

common misconception, and i have looked quite a bit.
