ok so i ama t a dilema. should i get a kalinga pro witht the s30v blade or one from cabelas? the vanguard i think its called. both ar nice, both s30v and both made by buck:D so since i can only get one, and it is gonna be a fixed blade, which should i get? thanks for ur help guys. and if you have used both, please share your stories adn tell me how they held up.;)

This may be as simple as you deciding what type blade you like best and what you are going to do with it. Kalinga - Clip Vanguard - Drop.

My preference is the clip blade on anything, for my deer skinnin. I tried the Vanguard AG and it just didn't work for me. Others get along with it just fine.

Try and go somewhere that has each and get some hands on.

I see in some of your post that you have considered or purchased a few other knives. Just want to say that Buck's warranty may wel make it the best value around, in addition to the Bos heat treat on Bucks S30V.

And welcome to the Buck forum if you haven't popped in here before!!

I have both... I can't have just one or the other ;)
Sorry I can't help :D

What do you plan on using it for? As PR suggested the Kalinga is probably a better skinning knife, but I like the Vanguard just fine! Its more of an "all around knife" (to me)

I have both - stare at them mostly. A 'regular' Vanguard 192, actually a Cabela's 'Pro-Line' with it's 420HC blade, was my woods-stomping/'bushcraft' knife. Still 'at the ready' - and never been resharpened, it was superceded by various flat or convex-grind goodies from BM and BRK&T. I really like the 'feel' of the Vanguard - so I'd get the ultimate - like my AG192 - and use it. Great feel, in the hand - comfortable to strip bark, cut & notch limbs, etc - haven't cleaned a fish or animal - yet. That K-P #408 is a beauty, however. Tough decision. If you plan on using it in varied weather conditions, consider the basic #692 with a rubber handle - and Kydex sheath (The others mentioned are leather!).

rat pack, you are right i am looking at otehr knives. i jsut got some extra funds adn decided to get a buck along with those others. as for what i will be using the knife for, well i dont hunt, yet atleast, so pretty much for whenever i go into the woods to camp or hike adn jsut for other utilities that i find it useful for. bopth are great looking knivs and both are s30v. i am kinda leaning towards the kalinga, it is jsut so beautiul looking. but i bit more money so i dont know yet.

If I were you......I'd get both of them. I love the vanguard knife. I have the Kalinga Pro on order "Back Order" at "The Blade Shop" The order was placed with them at the same time I placed my Custom order with Buck. Buck said it would be about 6 weeks and shipped them in less that 3!!!! The Blade Shop said it would be 1-2 weeks and we have passed week 5:grumpy::mad:. Oh well good things come to those who wait:p

I recently beat the crap outta my Kalinga pro and I am amazed by that knife. I think the vanguard is an all around better woods knife but I did some chopping and what have you with the Kalinga and LOVE that knife.
