I got quite a few gift cards for christmas this year so I have ordered a new fixed blade kalinga pro in s30v with brass and rosewood. I have number 59 of 500 of the NRA kalinga pro but with all that steel cut out of it I wouldn't feel comfortable using it and besides Chuch Buck signed it himself. Definitley wanted a new user after handling it though. It's an amazing piece. :D

Hay CPM,

How about a photo of that cool new NRA Kalinga!!!! I've only looked at the catalog pic :(. Sounds like you had a very good Xmas this year.

That one isn't a user. The cutouts may hold up ok for a long time, but there are others to use...

Here is another one that I wouldn't use either...

I am looking forward to using the new 419 folder. Let us know when you get the fixed blade user. I may grab one up after some field use with the 419. Love the S30V. Wish my 119 would have come in a nice presentation box like yours.

Hi CPM,

Wow!!!! Thanks for the photo's. That is sweet and it looks better in your photo's than in the catalog!!!! A lot of our forumite's here don't appreciate a good blade cut out...But, I sure do. Let me wipe the drool from my mouth; before it smokes my key board.

Ratty....I see you have a set of twins....there is a family resemblance in them...LOL

I have had this affliction of buying in pairs....I need to stop that....

Sure would go good with one like CPM's.... that one is nice!

Thanks fellas. At least if I come upon hard times I will know who to talk to first. ;) Until then it adorns my 'man-room'. heh heh heh

Very cool knife. Looks much better in your pics than the stock NRA photo's.

Until my kids grow up and move away, I only have a man closet :o (of course the Mrs reminds me that I also have the garage, two sheds, a doghouse, etc.... :D)

I am slipping,,,should have gone there first. I used to get all the email but something must have gotten messed up when I had to swithover from road runner to comcast a while back.

Since I no longer have a search function, I was wondering something. Some people call S30v the best steel ever and some say its all hype. From you guys who have and use it, can you tell me is it mostly hype or FAR SUPERIOR to other steels. I won't be getting my user until 03 Jan ARGH! But plan on testing it myself.

Everyone has their own opinions. I think it holds an edge alot longer than 420HC.
Would I call it far superior? No.
Far superior in edge retention yes.
Far superior in draining your wallet you bet ;)
It is also tougher to get an edge back on it... SOOooo I guess you have to pick the worst of the evils ;)
I carry a 420HC bladed Buck for work usually, I dont mind touching up the edge at night. I don't really mind any of the steel that Buck uses. Its all good stuff, just depends what you really want!
I have a few S30V knives. It has become my favorite...

I have been playing with some 110's last couple years doing up a few whitetail. So far the S30V has been the best. But that is only comparing to a BP CPM154, a 420hc, and an old 425 steel 110.

The S30V and 154 were both nib this last trip and maybe the 154 just didn't have as sharp an edge from the factory as the S30V did. Needs more research with me putting my edge on each and trying them.

Hopefully I get to go agan soon and now have a user BG42 with a fresh factory edge that I will throw in the mix.

S30V went through several whitetail last season without resharpening.
(yes, I am talking about two separate AG110's here)

Well I have been beating the hell outta my new Kaling pro USER and I am impressed. I might catch hell for this from you guys but I wanted to test this out before I went carrying it into the woods. That S30V is some tough stuff. The edge was brittle but after chopping up some oak I had laying around and doing a little bit of reprofiling It is now very tough. It's sharp as the dickens, slices incredibly well, chops pretty darn well for a SKINNER , is a beauty to look at, and is very comfortable in hand. It does have some heft to it which is a plus to me. I don't like my tools (including my firearms) to feel like toys. BUCK has made an amazing product.
Side question though. I enjoy reading about buck knife testimonials and swore they had a place like that on their site. I can't seem to find it now. anyone shed some light?
thanks
Doc

You can heat it up and use that cut out to brand cattle too ;)

I LOVE my Kalinga Pro fixed. Used to be I had a pile of EDC Buck fixed that I would rotate out (see pic in sig).
Now I have it pared down to two...Kalinga Pro Hi-Yo Silver and Intrepid Tanto.

The NRA one is NOT my user. after that was gifted to me I liked it so much I had to buy a user. (coincidently my brand would be FUCT- say it like it's spelled ;) )

Then why would anyone give ya poop for using it? It's a great knife and made to be used. Get a spare like someone else I know ;) for a closet queen.
Well, I guess you don't have to to that since you have the NRA one.

I use mine almost every day. Yesterday it was used to prep some pork ribs for my smoker and then to cut 'em up when they were done.
