Is this really a "Pro" model or just called that? Still, at 50.00 shipped it's not a bad deal. I've seen them for 3 times that.

The 419 Kalinga Pro Folder with brass and wood and S30V goes for $150 quite often because it's discontinued.

The one you show is not as dear.

Yea, I just found thru a little research that the one shown has 420HC steel, the pro model has upgraded steel in it's blade. Oh well, still a nice knife.

It's a GREAT knife.

The S30V is worth only a few dollars more (as shown by the prices of Custom Shoppe 110s).

The 419 gets the big money because it's discontinued and has the better looks of brass and wood.

But that 415 is a highly functional knife and I like the camo.

:)

Mitch,

The Kalinga Pro was the trademarked name for the knife (both fixed and folding) when they were introduced in 2007. That was before Buck started using the Pro, Avid and Select designations for different grades of the same knife, so your's is a "Pro", just not what they call a "Pro" today. In 2007 they offered them in the Rosewood and black rubber handled models, and added the camo version in 2008.

In 2009 they began using the Pro, Avid, Select designations in the catalog and dropped the "Pro" from the Kalinga's name. The S30V versions had more of a polished (but not a mirror polish), smoother look to the blades and they had the Rosewood handles, both of which probably added to the cost.

All the versions were dropped from the catalog in 2010.

Yea my supervisor at work will like it too. He tries to talk me out of anything camo that I get my hands on ( he hasn't succeeded yet:D)!

Thanks, that answers alot of questions.

You're welcome.
The S30V model also had the brass bolster and came with a leather sheath which I'm sure added to the cost, so it wasn't just the S30V blade that ran the price up.

Even though they were dropped and not in the 2010 catalog, they were still made that year. I have a 419 with a 2010 date stamp and the box label is printed with a date of 12/13/2010.

Although the 415CMS camo version wasn't in the catalog until 2008, mine has a date stamp from 2007. I have five of the 419RWS models, two from 2007 and one each from '08, '09 and '10 so I have them from each year they were listed and for one year after they were dropped from the catalog. I didn't plan it that way, it just happened.

I am so sad that they were discontinued!
Heres a boring story...I was very aprehensive when they first announced that the 401 Kalinga was being redesigned. I figured there was NO WAY they would do the original 401 justice. And they were talking about a folder to! Now thats just wrong i thought!
The first one I actaully held was the one I figured I would dislike the most. I was already convinced that I would not like any of them when an engineer handed me a 415 in black. WOW! Sturdy steel frame, grippy handle, super light.

I'm not a hug fan of curvy edges because they can be tricky to resharpen but they really added to the coolness of the Pros! I've purchased a few!
