Has anyone ever heard of the fixed blade Buck Kalinga? If so, what can you tell Me about it? I believe this knife was new in the early 80's.

Welcome to the forum Joe!

There is a search feature that might give you more info.

There are also a few Kalingas in stag. Limited Editions... They look quite nice! :D

How many here knew that "Kalinga" was the name of Al Buck's "pride and joy" - 50 foot yacht kept at Southwestern Yacht Club while he lived in San Diego?

Also, that there is a "sister" knife to the Kalinga called the Akonua - both have the wooden handles and upswept blade style - the Kalinga's blade is wider though then the Akonua's...

yup,,,,look for the book about history of Buck knives. Shows up on ebay sometimes.

How much did the stock Kalinga go for when in production?
Not neccessarily the fancy dancers, just the everday boogers.

Not a fan of ironwood but here is a link just for grins...

Hi Goose,

Now don't quote me here as my mind is not what it once was. However, as a kid in the early 70's, standing in front of the Buck knife display at the local sporting goods store, getting finger prints and drool on the glass. I believe the price back then for a Kalinga was $50-60 bones, that was a premium price for a premium product back then. You can check the price list on the BCCI web site, my feathered and honking kneek buddy.

PS: I was one of the lucky few to get a stag handled Kalinga's that came out a short time ago. It's very nice. What can I say about it....honk...honk...honk.

Goose,

You have mail brother. I was able to get the info for you off the BCCI web site. I sent you the file from Buck 1970 release info about the Kalinga. Oh, 1970 was the year the Kalinga hit the catalog and had a list price of $50.00. My mind's not that far gone after all. :D :jerkit:

In my browser [Mozilla], it shows up as an .EXE file...but they're all .PDF files [at the BCCI site]; rename it to xxxxxx.pdf and open it with Acrobat Reader...
