I like the Kalinga, and, while I like the S30V/rosewood version okay, the rubber version with the time-tested 420HC appeals to me more---and I can't complain, it certainly is easier to find and cheaper.

My question is, how many of you own one and is it a good all around knife for chores around the camp, skinning medium-sized animals (whitetail deer, coyote, possibly a mule deer, etc...), and EDC? Is the fixed or folding a better package in your opinion? It seems like a nice knife and it is very appealing to my eye. Thanks for the help and opinions.

God bless you, America, our Allies, and our men and women overseas.

I use a folding 110 carried in my front pocket in the field for gutting, but fixed blades for skinning. Man needs more than one knife:) What I really want is an older Kalinga that has been used but not abused so I will use it. They are one nice knife.

Hi Wade...
I don't have either of the new ones (rubber or rosewood S30V)...so what the hell do I know?
I do have a Kalinga Chipflint Buff handle with Buff inlay on display and my EDC fixed blade rotation has been joined by a 1986 Kalinga.

Verdict is that I really like it as an EDC. The sheath rides lower than the 1xx series sheaths, I love the choil (a ton) and overall ergonomics as well.

It is a "smaller" fixed blade, but the shape lends it to appear larger. This is handy in areas with a blade length law (while Calif as a state does not have a length law, many localities have a 6" blade law).

And, as Two110's stated, you need two on ya...so get 'em both.
As for me, right now as I type, I am carrying a 882SBTG in my hip pocket and the Kalinga 1986 on my belt.
