just bought a new one with s30v steel and just love it. how long has buck made the kalinga model?

I've eyed one of those for awhile. I'd like to see a picture with the s30v one and the 420hc(new one), and the old Kalinga. They all look differant and I'd like to see a comparison. That s30v is sweet steel.

The new ones are called the Kalinga Pro and come in fixed blade or folder.

The fb # 408 and folder # 419 S30V Kalinga Pros were available fall '07. Here are my pair - and the '07 Christmas Collector's Tin 110 from Wally World. Ah, I remember those Holiday tins... good times... sitting by the fake tree with LED lights... a video of a fireplace on the HD TV... 'Grandma got run over by some reindeer' on the surround sound... breaking my fingernail to the quick trying to open the tin, only to find no cookies... good times!

Oh yeah, the Kalinga Pro... I actually carry my folder some days. What a hoot to present to open a package with. The fb K-P is still my most beautiful Buck fb... with or without my reading glasses.

Is that top Kalinga one of the ones that Bass Pro is carrying now? On their site it doesnt show the swedge(??) on the tip.

Thanks. Bass pro has two differant ones and the wood one that the handle is flush looks similar to one.

I really like the one that looks more traditional. But the blade on it looks slimmer than the older one.

thanks for the great pics, what year did the first model come out?

Okie, Buck came out w/ that model in 1969 w/ a black micarta handle. There are two things which make the Kalinga and its brother the Akonua different for all other Buck knives. First, Alfred C. Buck was a Navy man and after his discharge he still enjoyed sailing. So, those two models were named after places he had been and enjoyed and were the only ones designated w/ a name instead of a number on the blade. The later cameout just after the former in 1971 which is one of my favorite. It looks as if the one Buckaholic has is rare. DM:)

No, looking again at it I was mistaken that ones not rare. DM
Yeah, I think it's a pretty common old version David. :)
Got it off e-bay and has Chuck's sig engraved in it...but it's run of the mill and the sigs he does at events and such.
