I was able to get some Kamagong from a relative who went to the Phillipines and brought some back in his luggage. This is my first time using this wood. It's not the nicest piece of kamagong but I think it works well with the knife. The blade is 5160 steel, 1/4" stock, 8 1/8" long, overall is 13 3/4". This knife is pretty different from what I usually do as well as the handle material. I'd like to hear some comments from you guys both good and bad. Thanks!

Nice job, Ray! I like the wood-those mixed colors are something I haven't seen before. They give the knife a unique look!

That rocks! Keep it up! You should do more of that style........it has nice clean lines.

SUH-WEEET! The knife is bada$$ all the way around Ray! Does the grain get any tighter on this wood or is it kinda blotchy? -Matt-

Thanks for the comments. I think the knife turned out great. I love the way it feels in the hand! Matt, this wood is like ebony. In fact, I think it is some type of ebony. The lighter part of the handle has black spots that at first glance make the wood appear to be dirty or have lots of open grain but it's pretty smooth. The lighter part feels just as hard as the dark part and I can't dent it with my fingernail. I think this is an unusual piece I used for the handle. That block of wood under the knife is how kamagong normally looks.

That knife is awesome. Great wood for the handle! I see you got alot :)

That black spot isn't bark is it?

Anyway, great knife.

Kamagong is like that! My home in the Philippines has al ot of kamagong walls and they are mixed brown and black. They are as hard as you can get! Termites can't touch them ! I guess a lot of termites must be toothless in my fathers home! I used to break cemnt blocks and flors with a kamagong cane and never dented the wood! I plan to get some when go home to visit !!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Ray! Too busy drooling over the knife to notice the backdrop! :D -Matt-

the real kamagong is the dark part. very hard. the light one is the live part of the tree trunk. next itme tell him it has to be uniformly dark.

I think that is the just the knife I've been looking for. Beautiful work, nice lines, where's the balance point? I would guess the weights a bit toward the front?

Sweet, that looks like it will do a fine job chopping up some fire wood.

beautiful knive, clean lines, very straightforward. the wood also looks great with the two colours.
