I just bought this knife on the exchange and wanted to know who made it. Its a McCurdy hunting knife with a 5.5" blade. It's my first H.I. knife and so far I am very impressed. I noticed right away when I started sharpening it that the steel is a little harder than what I was expecting. I was using a carborumdum stone and could definitely tell the difference.

Thanks in advance for any help y'all can give me.

Rich.

I had no idea HI ever made anything for McCurdy. That mark doesn't look like any regular HI kami mark. Maybe so of the older members will know. Nice knife either way.

My understanding is that Mr. McCurdy gets his knives made by one of the khukuri houses in Nepal (competitors of HI). Looks like their kamis are putting their names on the blades he gets.

I'm not sure what a reasonable price is for that knife but if your not happy about the fact that HI didn't make it ask the seller for a refund or a price adjustment.

I'm sure the seller meant no ill will he was just mistaken or unless he has documentation to the contrary.

I have talked to Mr. McCurdy through e-mail and he confirms his knives are, like Steve Tall said, his knives made by one of the khukuri houses in Nepal.

According to "bld552":
"McCurdy Nepal Hunter (made by Himalayan Imports, discontinued), SOLD"

I doubt this knife was made by Himalayan Imports. Of course Yangdu or Karda will know this for sure.
Some unethical people do indeed say things are made by someone or a famous company to sale their product for a higher prices.

That's why buying things from the internet is risky. Replicas, counterfeit items, and unauthorized copies of replacement parts, coins, Art, cell phones, DVDs, knives, swords, etc. are everywhere.

For example this year, 2012 there has been a Chinese copy of the Fallkniven F1 being sold on the internet/eBay. The more honest sellers are saying it was made in China but the dishonest are saying nothing but leading folks to believe it's a real F1.

Here's the sales thread. If the knife isn't H.I. does that effect the value significantly?
I am very curious to learn if you knew it was not a Himalayan Imports Knife before you bought it.

rkmoore you state in questioning the seller: What is the blade length on the KH Hunter?

KH Hunter? as in Khukuri House Hunter? Why did you not state HI Hunter?

If you knew it was a KH product you can't honestly ask for a refund and yes the value to most people is lower than a real Himalayan Imports Knife. Not saying it's a bad knife just saying.

I wasn't sure because I couldn't find any reference to H.I. McCurdy knives on the net. Either way I think it's a good knife. Just want to know if it's H.I. or not.
My question about value was only in regard to eventual resale.

AFAIK, Himalayan Imports has never made the McCurdy. It has always been made by one of the houses to the best of my knowledge.
With that, I'm moving this to the Cantina, as it's not an H.I. product.

Thats a good looking knife, not an H.I., but a good looking knife non the less. I say use it and enjoy it. :)
