Hello hello, HI junkies!

So I just received a "blem" from the 22nd. A 85$ BAS made by Purna Kami. This is my first blade by purna and my 3rd BAS from HI.
HANDS DOWN.... IT IS THE BEST BAS I HAVE EVER HELD!

I love Rajkumar and I am not saying any of this despite his amazing BAS that I own, but this new Khuk is WONDERFUL! And my first from Purna... I am loving his WORK!

The sheath is perfect, with a thick, heavy double strap (lacking in the Raj BAS). The blade is balanced PERFECTLY! It has the grace of a gelbu or siru, with the weight of a CAK. The handle has been sanded or worked on so that rings that usually protrude on a smaller khuk (my Raj BAS) are gone, leaving an ergonomic and pleasurable holding experience!

Haven't used it yet, literally JUST opened it. Was so in love and was so much in awe of this BLEM that I HAD to post! Buy HI Khukuris. BUY 10! I have a huge collection now, and I am STILL in awe of the new work that these kamis are doing.

HI always seems to be going above and beyond the competitors and my new BAS is a great example of that. Made by a new Kami, was a blem, and a dotd... and STILL manages to be one of the finer Khuks I have EVER held or owned!

Great work, Purna!
Daniel

BTW both the BAS and the KARDA were hair shaving, razor sharp! My first razor sharp, HI Karda... WELL DONE PURNA!

Congratulations on your Purna
I have a dui chirra by Purna and God willing I will get several more knives built by him.

I only have one Purna but Im convinced he is one talented craftsman! Id feel confident that anything he makes will be outstanding:thumbup:

Of all the Kami who have made my blades, Purna is my favorite so far. All I have from him is a fifteen inch, sixteen ounce Chainpuri, but it is my favorite knife and I personally think it was pick of the crop of all the Chainpuri he was making. It's only flaw was a tight fitting sheath, and using ndoghouse's advice I've managed to loosen the fit. Now if only I had wood glue so I could stick the leather back down.

Purna's craftsmanship is as good as it gets. That first-prize winner is amazing. Here's Purna's Hanshee-Gelbu hybrid (the one that was made as a twin to Noah's blade), 22" OAL, 27 oz:

This is a very big blade. The 22" OAL is measured in a straight line from tip to pommel. Most khukuris are a little longer if you measure them around the bend. However, because of the extreme curve of this blade, it is a full 25" measured around the bend. The hollow forging is very deep and the whole thing is perfectly made.

Scara~ the glue used to hold it down is most likely water based. you may be able to dampen the leather by wrapping it in a damp towel until it will stay in place then let the glue dry out again. super glue will work, but you'd need to dump a lot inside and it still may not hold if it isn't compatible with the original glue.

They should just measure Hanshees in Radii or diameter. :D Thats the blade of the year right there:thumbup:

Scara: Stuff something inside along with the knife while it dries. Blade+ karda +cotton balls +paper wads etc. Whatever it takes. It will usually keep shape and stick with any of them glues. You mentioned (IIRC?) you had to slightly trim one edge to get it to fold back in place properly as I recall. Ive had to do that a few times for an unruly fold. Maybe something going on there?

Superglue, Epoxy, Hide glue, Elmers will all work just fine.

I'm glad to hear that. Should make it easier for me to find some to use. I just don't want to buy any if I don't have to because glue does go bad eventually and I plan on moving out in a year, and I'd either have to pack it up or leave it behind.

And ndoghouse, you remember correctly. It was a piece of leather a little smaller than my pinky nail. I think it used to be folded underneath the leather covering the divider between the kukri and tools. When I unfolded the leather on the outside that piece came out and I doubt I would have been able to get it back in on my own. I suppose that's part of why some of the time when I unsheathe the Chainpuri the leather unfolds and pops out. Right now I use the chakmak to fold it back in place, but I will arrange to glue it down again.

$uperglue or $chool glue probably would be your best bet then. The glue dont have to be hi tech or even hold that well. Once the leather gets "trained" you wont have to worry about tucking it back in or anything like that. Let us know if something aint werkin. I know we can fix you up so you'll be happy with it. Just gotta hit the right combo:thumbup:

I love this forum. The longer I'm here, the more I see why we're so tight-knit.

Egg whites have been used forever as glue. I can't guarantee it will work on leather, but you could try to use a little, the next time you prepare an omelette. Worst case, it will give the leather a nice shine, that I know for sure.
