I have khukuri made by the kami known as "!" I think. Is there any information about him anywhere on the site? Is his name unknown? How mysterious.. Or is it?

One of the newer guys, seems to put out a good khuk. I tried to get the nickname "Bang" to catch on (as "!" is known in programming) but nobody else like it :( It's alot less of a stretch than Amtrak LOL

Yadep Bahadur. Came and left as I hear. Not a bad kami.

He's gone??? Shoot! He made some of the best handles around. Glad I got my AK by him. :(

I'll second that. I've got a 12" AK and a M43 of his that are quite nice. Sad to hear he's left.

A lot of the kamis that come and go are landowners of small plots which they farm at a subsistence level in addition to doing smithing at the village level. They need to work the land and tend to the few animals they might have but they also need cash and that's where we come in.

Curious what plants they grow for food for people &/or livestock.

Are any or all familiar of these familiar to most Americans?

Hell, Bill, get him back! The guy does amazing work. I've already mentioned a number of times that the guy's 15" BAS I "wound up with" is one of the nicest feeling cutting implements I ever held or owned.

Visited my brother-in-law a few weeks back and out of the eight Khuks I showed him, that the was the one he kept trying to buy off me - but I wouldn't sell.

I'm gearing up to buy a 21" Chitlangi and I was going to ask you to grab one by him if there was one available (or Kumar, who makes a very similar feeling handle).

Dang. At least I got one of his pieces.

Don

My Bang BAS is pretty good. Great distal taper, great edge all the way to the tip.

But that's "pretty good" in comparison to Team Bura. The Bura BAS I just got makes me understand Sarge's Magical Sirupati.

So for one guy vs. a team of three with a century of experience, he's not doing too bad! :D :D

I've read some on Nepal and found that they grow spelt(like our wheat), potatoes and rutabaga's for some stuff you are familiar with. They grow rice and lentils and now they are experimenting with greenhousing a lot of different plants to see what will grow at the 6000-10000 ft level. They raise yaks and goats for food, milk and working. I'm sure there is lots more. Just the tip I found.:)

Actually they can grow just about anything we do here and do. Livestock generally chickens, pigs, water buffalo.

Maybe I'm confused, but alot of the Kamis seem to have "Bahadur" and/or "Bishwakarma" in their names. Must drive the Nepal Dept. of Motor Vehicles nuts.
