Kami"s shop 1 and 2

All the kamis with marks work at BirGorkha (formerly shop 2). We don't get anything from the old shop anymore but not to worry. They are still cranking out khukuris by the hundreds -- or maybe even thousands.
 
I didn't realize all our Khukuris came exclusively from the BirGhorkha shop. Does HI still own/run Shop 1? And where do all Shop 1 Kuks go? I find it amazing that just 5 Kamis turn out all this work. The new designs as well as the standards. THANKS!
 
We never did own or run shop 1. They did our work on a subcontract basis -- premium pay for premium work. Late deliveries and inconsistent quality led to the start up of shop 2 which became BirGorkha (factory had to be registered with HMG and needed a name so Gelbu named it BirGorkha).

Actually we have 9 master kamis on the floor at BirGorkha

And about an equal number of apprentices. Last I heard from Pala he said there were 17 men working not including the sarkis.
 
Thanks for the behind the scenes details. I was trying to remember who all the present Kamis were (should have known better than to rely on MY memory) and was thinking the Kami with no name as being one person and forgot Jag and Prem. Bad me, cause I have one of their kuks.
