Just noticed Knifeworks has stocked some Kanetsune knives.
I stumbled upon the Hi and Yama models and fell in love.

And I was wondering if anyone happened to have these or know what kinda grind they have?
Because I'd hate to find out the hard way that they are convex, as I have no means of sharpening those.
Oh and anyone have any experience with White Steel they use on these?

Ok just got a reply from a Kanetsune representative after inquiring them. And both have a convex grind. I guess I'll just have to get proper sharpening equipment with them. :)

I have a few of those knives and they are pretty good. I think they all
come with a convexed edge but I have a nice flat ground one too

This little one is probably my favorite of the few I have.

You could always put a V-shaped micro bevel on the convex grind. Done correctly, you wouldn't have any performance difference.

Ditto to everything said above.

I have 3 Kanetsunes and all are convex ground. I do believe, with possibly one or two exceptions, Kanetsune uses convex grind.

As far as setting up for convex sharpening, the basics are a mouse pad and half dozen sheets of sandpaper to get started. $10 - $15 tops to get rolling.

White steel is a pretty basic, high carbon steel, capable of taking on a face shaving edge ( it's used in the majority of straight razors in japan). They usually heat treat it pretty hard in the low 60's
Hope that help

Thanks for the info. :)
All I really needed to hear is that is it good or bad. :P

I have the Yama and also a Takumi Tsurugi.
The yama is a quite a nice knife, i wrapped mine in some string as it doesn't have a handle. Comfortable slim design.
The white steel seems ok, i did however manage to snap a tiny bit of the tip off when i was digging in some plywood with it.
The takumi tsurugi is one of my favourite knives, the layered steel looks beautiful.
I have to try a kanetsune knife with a handle...
