I had bought a new Kanetsune knife recently! But I found a strange phenomenon:the layer figure on the blade of new knife is regular, and that on the blade of kw2 and kw4(i purchased 3year ago) are random.I saw some argument on forums which said that some new knives of Kanetsune was made by the finished material of hitachi, and the layer figure was made by machines of hitachi. is it true? and was the figure on the blade of my knife made by hands or machines?

I bought three or four Kanetsunes partially based on the fact their website gives the impression the are "forged in the traditional Japanese style" and photo's that give the impression they are hand forged on site.

Goes to show you need to do your homework. I dug a little deeper on their website and there is a link to information on their steel. It is supplied by Hitachi.

I don't have older Kanetsunes to compare, so not sure if Hitachi has always supplied or not.

Here is the link.

oh,no,the message of "forged in the traditional Japanese style" and photo's that give the impression they are hand forged on site misleaded me! I know the core of blade was supplied by Hitachi. But I had though the the layer figure on the blade was made by hand hammer until yesterday.
here is a letter from Kanetsunes

Dear **,

Thank you for your email.

Kanetsune is factory knives, but custom knives.
Same as other factory knife brands, Kanetsune is made by machines.

Cordially,

Now we know.

I was considering purchsing another Kanetsune or two, and may still, but for the money I'll have to compare them against a true custom.
