Hi,

Well, here I go again looking into another one. I'm intrigued by the Kansept Shikari. They have the option of CV20 or Damascus ($60 more). Is anyone familiar with the quality of Damascus used here or should I just stick with the proven 20CV?

Thanks in advance

Wow, thanks. Now I wondering if the CV is the better steel.
I can't speak to this specific knife, but I'd bet money from a pure performance perspective the 20CV is far superior. (You'd have to know which steels were used to be sure, of course.)

I'd also be willing to bet that Kansept isn't roughly matching the performance of their damascus with 20CV, like CRK does with their damascus and S35VN/S45VN.

Damascus - you may not notice the drop in performance but you will constantly notice the "drop" in looks

The damascus is likely 9Cr18MoV / 10Cr15CoMoV, which will have much lower cutting performance than properly heat treated 20CV.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I decided to hold off on the knife for now and just ordered a Bastinelli Creations Shadow FX533CF! More $$, but IMHO a better all around knife, Elmax, Italian made and slightly more tactical. I bought the last one available anywhere and it is now out of production.
