i wonder how fast the fibers wear out? and if they are completely dry (non-gelatinise)? and if sterility will become a problem?

but looks cool.
 
All my kitchen knives are regularly contaminated before each use. First thing I do when I pull one from the block is lightly scrape the pad of my thumb across the blade to judge sharpness, leaving lots of skin cells probably.

I use so many large kitchen knives that it is getting difficult to find a big slot in one of the two wooden blocks. With this gizmo only the cleavers will be left out in the cold now. A strong magnet built into the side of the block might hold a cleaver.

Hate to be the first one. Someone else must get the Bed Bath Beyond flyer.

Why not have the fibers clear and the block made of Lucite? Then you could see that the knives didn't touch. And, when it is time to run it thru the dishwasher.
