Hey guys, so I've been looking for a karambit style knife. It's been difficult for me to find a solid one and I imagine someone else is having the same issue. I've been stuck between the Ontario Ranger EOD karambit and the CRKT Ringed Razel. Any advice or recommendations is great appreciated!
The Ringed Razel has a ring, but the blade shape is totally and completely different from a karambit, and is designed as more of a utility knife, capable of scraping, push cutting, chiseling, and doing sundry tasks like a carpentry knife. Ringed yes, but very different than a karambit-it's also discontinued, so finding one could be an issue. As for actual karambits, if you want a decent fixed blade one, you do have a few options, but most of them are pricy. Aside from the Ontario you mentioned there's the Cold Steel Steel Tiger(maybe a big larger than you prefer, if it does interest you note that later this year they're releasing it in upgraded steel so you may wanna wait), the Emerson karambit(the priciest of the lot), the Fox Kuku Hanuman, the 5.11 Tactical Tarani karambit, and the karambit from Traditional Filipino Weapons. All of them are solid and well made, so it really comes down to things like what size you're looking for(the 5.11 is a bit smaller than the others, the Cold Steel is notably larger), what price range is okay for you, if American made is important to you or not(it's not for me, but someone go nuts about it), etc. If you want a folding karambit(I'm assuming not since the 2 you mentioned are fixed), I can list some of those too, but for now, assuming fixed blades, here's a look at some options:
Emerson Karambit(also available with a black blade):
5.11 Tactical Tarani:
Fox Kuku Hanuman:
Cold Steel Steel Tiger:
Traditional Filipino Weapons Karambit:
