Hello i was looking to buy a karambit knife i believe it to be a folding one its under 3 inches no (auto or spring assist) does anyone know if thats legal in Washington county in mn.

No state or local law anywhere has laws specifically about Karambit. They are no different than many common tools used in carpet fitting, drywall, vinyl flooring, and plant trimming, so passing any law against them would be absurd and make those industries nearly impossible. Rather, legality of a Karambit is based on other criteria (blade length, operating mechanism, edges).

Minnesota does not have a limitation on the length of the blade, but does prohibit switchblades and metal knuckle devices. With regards to other knives, it is only illegal to carry knives that were intended as weapons with intent to use them as a weapon. The Karambit, while often thought of by the ignorant as a weapon, is actually an agricultural tool that was adapted into weapon use out of necessity. Then again, the same can be said of nunchuku (which are actually rice-threshers that the Okinawans pressed into martial use because they could not have swords).

Washington County does not appear have any knife laws.

Thank you i was looking at that style knife for better control when opening packages then the ripstop one knife i currently have now and i thought it should be ok to carry since it had no auto assist or auto opening and its under the 3 inches that alot of places limit them to that im aware of.

I'd look for the least "Tactical" looking one you can find. If you don't have to go with folding the CRKT Keramin is a nice looking little Karambit style knife and since it doesn't have the ring that karambits often have there's no chance of police trying to argue that its some sort of knuckle knife.
