I was fortunate enough to get one of Steve Tarani's trainers while in NYC. Thought I would show it here along with the sheath I put on it so I can carry it around and terrorize my kids with it, well maybe not but the more I use it the more I look forward to getting the real one, and by then I will stand a chance of not killing myself with it.
Take care. Dean

Nice trainer. Seems to have a very nice finish.

I don´t know if you are a Kerambit (Karambit etc.) expert. But do check out the Emerson knives site for some small movies on how to use it. Very interesting.

Thanks for the pic.

So, are the trainers for sale? If so, where can I order a set? They look like they'd make a formidable impact weapon by themselves, let alone the final sharpened model.

For an impact weapon along these lines, check out the DTL Impact Kerambit designed by Datu Kelly Worden. It's made of a polymer of some type. It will not fool security people, since it says "impact kerambit" on the thing, but being plastic, will probably minimize being considered an illegal weapon in most places. I got mine from Survival Sheath Systems, but I have seen them on other websites, such as Blade-tech, and I believe Worden's website as well. The main drawback seems to be the LARGE size, but then I have fairly small hands. If I had to get through a metal detector, but it was legal to carry, this would be on my short list of toys. (My intention here is honorable, really! Thing of UC officers that need to go into a nightclub that has a metal detector at the door, and not blow their cover.)

I saw them at www.karambit.com. Last time I checked, the site was down (again), but they were selling the trainers for @ $45. Good price, IMO, especially when you consider the balisong trainer from Benchmade is ~$80?

I skipped the bali trainer and am glad I did. I'm probably not going to skip the Tarani trainer... After using the DTL, I realized there are many ways to get slit bad with the Strider kerambit - especially considering the sharpness and double edged blade.

I want one of those Taranis worse than a GB.

On another note,

Valiant co has finally reemerged from their hacker(I think) induced exile, and I've placed an order for two of their kerambits, to tide me over until I can get the real Tactical Kerambit from Strider.
