When I asked my mom what she wanted for Christmas, she told me she wanted a Karaoke system. I know nothing at all about these machines. The only one I have any knowledge of at all is one I saw demonstrated at my local Costco. I remember it was made by a company named Leadsinger and it was basically a microphone you plugged into the video and audio inputs of your t.v. It had chips which held about 65-180 songs(?), and it actually sounded pretty good. I think the cost was around $200.

Does anyone own one of these systems they can recommend or steer me away from? A quick internet search tells me a lot of systems use CDG's. Is this a better way to go than the music chips?

I'm not looking for a professional karaoke system for a club or renting for parties. Just something for my mom to have fun with, and something we can use at family parties and get togethers.

I'm not much into the karaoke thing, but I do know of one from RadioShack that goes for about 40 bucks. It's made by Memorex, I believe, and if you use their CD's a video output on the machine will display the words on your TV screen.
