Karda for everyday carry

I find myself using the karda rather than the khukuri for essentially all my daily tasks.

Are there any plans to make a chiruwa karda? I know the YCS exists, but it's also 9"+ long. If it were downsized to 4.5" or 5", it would be the perfect length for a pocket.

I was hoping we'd get a mini Kerambit. It's a great knife but a tad too big for most carry (being of illegal length).

Look at a JKM-1 around 7 1/2 inches

The JKM-1; the R-10; The R-6 and the Biltong all are within the size range you specify.

I have one of the Kerambits and it would make a fair EDC knife but I need to make a different sheath first,

The JKM-1 makes a great back pocket or dangler balde. The R-10 is a great bushcraft balde.

I have yet to get a Biltong but plan to.

The JKM-1s that I've seen are a bit long and thick for a lot of the duties you'd use a karda for.

For a full-tang knife that's small, the R-6 is probably the best bet.

I got into this kind of conversation, months ago, in my case about a longer karda, around 4". I wound up talking with Yangdu about a Kumar Karda.

The point being, that there's some way to get around this, and find the knife you're looking for, somehow.

I probably should have specified. When I say 4-5 inches, I meant overall length, not blade length. That means the size of the traditional kardas that come with our khuks is what I'm looking for. Except, I imagine they would be much nicer to use and carry with a premium heat treatment, slicker blade geometry, pinned handles, and their own comfortable sheath.

Talk to or email Yangdu, I have a YCS karda that is 7" long overall and the blade is 3.5" long. If you need a smaller handle or a longer blade Yangdu might get the kami's to make you a custom YCS Karda. Mine has the chiruwa style handle with a carved dragon on each side of the handle. Hope this helps.

Yep, if you want a chiruwa karda with a good hard blade and its own sheath, email Yangdu, she can have one made.

Mmm, I did send an email to her back in September about it. She seemed receptive of the idea but probably forgot about it in the fervor of the Nepalese holidays.

Send her another email or give her a phone call. She was very receptive when I wanted to order a YCS karda it just took a while to get from Nepal to Nevada.
