Karda makers

Ar ethe Karda and chakmaks made by teh same kami who makes the knife they are mated to, or does someone else altogether make those knives? those ones being unmarked I was just mildly curious.

I think that at least at one time, they were made by apprentices, which is one reason they vary so widely in quality.

That's what i've heard, too. I can attest that my kardas have been all over the map: the one with my M43 has a HUGE, round cross-section, and is slightly bent, while the one with my Salyan is more normal.

The exception to this, I presume, would be the YCS Kardas, which are often made as sale items unto themselves.

Speaking of kardas, in Howard's video tour of the HI workshops in Nepal, there is a big pile of them shown around 13:52, must be a hundred or so kardas and chakmas there.

Kardas and chakmas being so small, it would make little sense to mark them, especially being primarily the work of apprentices. The primary focus is on the khukri, which is why scabbards also are not marked.
