Hey all. So working in the woods a little while back I lost the karda for my 18" AK. Just put it down and then next thing I know it's gone. I honestly can't figure it out - I hadn't left a 10'x10' area and it was nowhere to be seen. Went over the area with a fine toothed comb (and a metal detector), but no such luck. :grumpy:

So what can I get to replace this - my sheath looks so forlorn without it. :( Would a small JKM, Sarge or Kumar karda work? Is it possible to just order a replacement?

Thanks!

There are a lot of different knives you could replace it with, and you can always write Yangdu and ask if she has any around.

there are three 5$ (or less) ontario feild knives that make for good beater knives. i have experience with the canning knife, and would describe it as the best 5$ knife you can buy for heavy use. they are 1095 and readily take a patina, and they could probably be easily reheat treated if you find the heat treat is off.

yandu may have a few extra's lying around though, and it wouldnt hurt to ask.

A Frosts Mora is about the right size and is a great companion to a khukuri. I'm partial to the carbon steel versions myself but I hear that their stainless is good. I take the handles down a bit on the belt sander so they fit the scabbard better.

And, of course, the price is right: <$10 from most sources in carbon steel.

custom karda would be my first choice. ;)

now, are you sure you lost it? or did it run away?!!

:D :p

seriously, though...can't go wrong with a small puukko or Frost Mora.

I wish! :D Maybe someday. ;) I'm thinking about getting into bladesmithing myself at some point. We'll see.

I almost think it did. :p Can't figure it out.

The Mora is tempting, but I think I'm going to go with Steve's suggestion about the beat up antique kardas. Figure they'll be good for sharpening, cleaning, polishing, etc. practice as well as getting a replacement. Wouldn't mind having a few extra knives lying around either - my collection is pitifully small right now. :D Oh, and yup, I did try a metal detector. I can only figure someone else must have found it in the meantime. :(

Thanks everyone for the help! This place is great. :)

Do you know anyone who has a metal detector?
I think he said a metal detector was used in addition to the hands and knees method of searching. Replace the karda and then and only then, will you find the lost karda.

Oops, I missed that and yes you are right!
