My first HI khukuri arrived yesterday. Awsome knife. Only thing wrong is that the karda hasn't been sharpened and is as blunt as the chakmak. Any advise on how to go about sharpening the karda without compromising the temper in the steel??

i dont think the kardas are tempered at all... simple stock removal may work

another option would be to find a replacement knife that would fit the karda slot. a few members have recommended the smaller mora knives :)

You mean it's flat, or just not sharp?

Anyway, power tools require more attention than stones and hones. If you are removing significant amounts of metal have a bucket of water for quenching. If you really worry about it. I don't think you'll have any problem.

You might have gotten two chakmas by mistake. That happens from time to time. Really, any stock removal method should work as long as you don't get the steel too hot. Also, I suggest just replacing the karda with a small knife like jaiofspam said. Moras are great, old hickory paring knives are also nice. I even like to just tuck a slim SAK in there. More useful too:)

All these SAK and CAK abbreviations confuse me. Makes me want to go Quack Quack Quack.
