Karda substitute

I got a "Bush Buddy" made by Condor to use with the Kami Fundraiser (KMEF) sheaths as a substitute for the traditional karda. I haven't yet tried it out, but I wanted to mention it now since a similar topic came up today.

I'm planning to piggyback the "Bush Buddy" kydex onto the KMEF sheath, but I haven't attached it yet. The main advantage would be that this small knife is very flat. It's a relatively thick, solid piece of 1075 carbon steel with a convex edge from the factory.

Here's a photo, and a link to a very short video showing it in hand.

A good idea, I myself am a bit partial to the CRKT Crawford Triumph but I would be hesitant to suggest it. I am not sure whether it would fit into that area meant for the karda.

Actually, I have a better idea: get a Wenger/Victorianox or similar pocket knife. They'll not only substitute a karda but possibly a few other few other things as well. They should also be small enough to fit in the karda's place.

condor makes good tools and has some good customer service. i got the parang machete from them for christmas and shook it loose from the handle the first time i put it through its paces. no questions asked, they sent me a new one about a week later and i still have the original to work on if i feel like. good blades, good company.

if i remember correctly, the bush buddy is a new Joe Flowers 2011 model, i cant find any of there new stuff anywhere, where did you buy it from?

I'll add a clarification that I'm talking about these spare sheaths that Yangdu sells for $20 as a fundraiser for the Kamis.

Yangdu sometimes gets khukuris from Nepal without kardas, chakmas, or sheaths and sells them with one of these fundraiser sheaths. (I got one or two this way). So already the khukuri doesn't have a karda.

More common is that someone has one of these sheaths as a spare "beater" sheath, to keep the Nepalese sheath in good shape. When using this fundraiser sheath, there obviously is no place for a karda. But I figure that with a "Bush Buddy" I can piggyback it and still keep the works from getting bulky.

My source was Smoky Mountain Knife Works.
