While I admit, our moderator is a nice guy, I don't know what he looks like so I am not sure if he is a great looking knife or not... :foot:

What I am talking about are the Himalayan Imports Kardas, both the "Kumar" styled and the "YCS" styled blades. Not those associated with the khukuries at all, except of course the YCS. I now have four of these beauties and am always looking for more, different ones to add to my collection. So far, I have only gotten the more "normal"length ones but hopefully before long I can shark me one of the big ones as well. I have a pair from both Kumar and Lok Kamis, meaning one Kumar type and one YCS type from each kami. Enough talk, here are the pix:

close ups of both "Kumar" types, they are basically the same on both sides...

And now both sides of the two YCS variety Kardas...

I love the two interpretations of the same theme here, a Dragon...

I don't know if all the Kamis make are able to make these knives or not. I also don't know about different woods, so far all the Kumar Types I have seen have been made of Saatisal and the YCS variety are made of Monkey Pod wood. I am sure if I asked, I could have something special made, with some other thing one them than a Dragon, but then it wouldn't fit the collection exactly. I am more interested in the different Kami's interpretations of the theme for these.

Heck, maybe this can serve as a Karda Photo Thread? How about it? If you have one or more, post them up!

Nice pics, the YCS is one I haven't seen before, but I've thought about getting a Kumar Karda more than once. Hmm... when is a karda a karda? I mean, could other HI R-series knives (like the R-3 you have) be counted as kardas?

Well, I don't think so or they would be billed as such. I have a lot of the "R's" as well and they are more knives and less ornate than the Kardas are... they also tend towards smaller and thinner blades. I dunno though, it is up to you to call them what you want once you buy them. Yo just have to call them what they are known by when ordering them. :)

Those are on my list for the look out. I like the horn a lot and I love the carvings...

I like the carvings with the swirly/spiral/fern motifs best... I think that's what adorns the pic on the HI website, and wasn't I happy when I got my first one with just such a handle! Reminds me of Maori carvings and artist Brian Froud's flourishes.
