Uncle Bill

I recently got my grubby paws on a old khuk the nearest model I could find places the design a round 1870, it has no sheath , karda or chakma, do you have any that might match or come close.

here are some blade specs

oal;18 1/2 in
blade length; 14 1/4
thickness of spine at bolster; 3/8
width of blade at bolster; 1 1/2
handle length; 4 1/4
handle material; walnut
full taper flat ground blade

not bad for less than 50.00 bucks.

this is identicall except the handle material is walnut.

I wish I could say I wasn't just a little bit envious.:) I'm not like Tsimi in trying to tell anyone the deal they have found isn't worth a flip and to send it to him for examination and ugggg 'Research'!!!!;)
I wouldn't mind finding a deal like that myself. But for me to do so I have to travel in a direction other than towards Claremore as
T-Bone (Terry) has all the hockshops and flea markets sewn up in that direction and for miles around as well and T-Bones sentiment about it is :p!!!! What a guy!!!! :)
Just TZN, except the part about Tsimi, You Know how He IS!!!!

Sounds like a helluva deal!!!!:D What kind of shape is the blade and edge in?

Terry can fix you up with a dayumed nice scabbard very reasonably and maybe could take care of the karda and chakma as well if Uncle Bill doesn't have a couple of spares laying around collecting dust.:)

Congrats on your deal!!!!:)

I think I have a karda and chakma that would work and I have a few extra scabbards laying around but you'll have to send the knife to see if any of these scabbards are going to work.

Yvsa

the blade is in fair condition it has some light to moderate pitting the worst of which is right in front of the elbow, it appears that it was left laying on top of something for quite a while and was damp.
half an hour with some gun oil and a tooth brush to clean up the blade and a little bit of naptha and some linseed oil to clean up residue on the handle.
no rust just a nice patina.

soon as I get the camera working again I'll send a pic.

The knife you're comparing yours to is just a bit bigger at 19.5" o/a with a 15.5" blade. If you had found another like this with the white metal grip you would really have something. These had blued blades and were (supposed) issue to the Kubo Valley (military) Police who would end up among the 10th Gurkha Rifles. I have a couple models more like what you describe and they are just great old, solid, well made kukris with terrific weight and balance.

Mott sent me a pic of his newly aquired khuk.
From its looks I thought that it may qualify to be a 'Hanshee" style, but am probabaly wrong as it doesn't have as much arc as the Hansee in Howard's FAQ's.

So that brings up the question of just what makes up the description of a Hanshee and/or what defines a khukuri as a Hansee?

What made me think Mott's may be one is the combination of arc and angle that one sees on the Hanshees. Is that part of what defines one?

The old khukuri that Mott managed to get is one I wouldn't mind at all having in my collection scaabard, little tools or not, but then I'm easy. :p :D

Sure. It will be headed your way in just a second. I will forward it to save time.:)

Terry can make a better scabbard than anything I might be able to pull out of the scabbard junkyard. He may charge a little more but you'll get a lot more.
