Karved Katana Pics

And finally, a handle detail. The tusba also has two dragons engraved on it, but my pics of the engraving did not do it justice. I don't know if this was created before or after Bura's illness, but as usual it is a masterpiece. This sword literally sings.

Hello,
- a real beauty, nice carving.

As I see the pictures I have a question:

I own a everest katana (standard, by Bura) too - and every katana (the non-chiruwa-stile-ones too) I see on pictures on the shopping site or in the forums has at least one pin in the grip. Mine does not have a pin - any idea how the blade is fixed? - Was it "forgotten" and I should make it stronger by placing a pin or rivet (wonder if this could work if it was kind of a rat-tail construction)? I did not have the opportunity to test the sword as I received it with my latest HI package yesterday :)

btw - the katanas seem to get straighter, compared to the ones on the shopping site yours and mine are far less bent.

thanks in advance and greetings from Bavaria

Andreas

My Tarwar has a dragon in the handle, it just blends well with the rest of the wood. ;)

Beautifully done carving, and I imagine it grips well too, my Kumar Karda is as much a pleasure to hold as it is to look at. Have any khuk handles ever recieved similar treatment?

I've always thought that the kamis could do a bang-up job on a highlander katana with their carving and forging skills.

Pan - I suspect the non-pinned handle is attached in the same manner as the khuk handles are, with the tang passing completely through the handle and peened over the end cap. I'd figure if Bura didn't feel it needed pinning, you're good to go.

I also immediately noted the straight blade as compared to those on the shopping site. Aesthetically I like the straight ones better. I have no basis for comparison as to how differently it might handle from a curved blade, but I love the way this one feels in the hand. It whistles and hums through the air.

Sarge - The handle is actially buffalo horn with liberally-applied rouge. I used a toothbrush dipped in hooflex to remove the excess upon arrival, and the black'red contrast is quite nice. The photos do not do it justice. As you suggested, it grips extremely well, no matter how I position my hand(s).

And as an added bonus, my narrow-bladed 21" khuks now feel like feathers after a workout with the katana.

Now all I need is a name for it...

Does the ridgeline I see down the center of the blade nearer the grip
continue the length of the blade?

Is it found on all of this style?

I had never before noticed a ridge on the Everest Katana.

Maybe I'm just going blind.

The line on this one extends the length of the blade from the habaki until it curves up to meet the spine about an inch back from the tip.

What a beauty. Thanks for posting the pics. I was wondering what the carved handles looked like :)

Can't use "Dragons Breath," my wife has already bestowed that title... on me.

What's the overall length on that fine piece? Looks like they got longer and straighter since I got mine.

I think that's about the same length as mine. I do wish I got one with the wood and leather scabbard though.

Haven't cut anything with it except the box it shipped with. :)
