I have a hiker pro which I have used for about 2 years with no problems and recently bought one for my daughter. I opened it and ran some tap water through to rinse out the charcoal powder as recommended. I used a 2 liter bottle and before I had pumped 1 liter through it the intake port blew apart in a manner which I can not fix. Katadyn is sending a new housing no questions asked but on researching it a bit I found several reviews with this same problem. I have a couple of new filters for mine so I guess I will use it but I will be buying something else soon, any suggestions for filters you have had success with? Keep in mind I am quite ham fisted and though that had no effect on this failure I do tend to break things with a bit too much force so chimpanzee proof would be a good thing.

The dark blue connector at the bottom of the housing where you plug in the intake hose popped out with a little pop from pressure. It is permanently attached to the housing and has a gray lock and release on it to clip the male blue connector in to it. You can see a bit of the gray plastic from the housing broken off and still attached.

I think I just have the HIKER but I've had the intake nipple on mine break twice.

The first time it was under warranty but the second time not. Of course the body was only 12 bucks but I called them and told them it was the second one that had broke and she acted like it wasn't a common occurance.

What's weird is the silicone hoses seem to exert no force on the nipples which are hard plastic, and the nipples are recessed so they can't easily bump and break off so I'm at a loss as to the stress causing the breakage.

Judging by the pop when mine came off and the water that sprayed out it was pressure but I can't understand how the intake had pressure to blow it outward since the water is going in the opposite direction but then I'm not very mechanically inclined.
