Katadyn Micropur tabs for survival kit

I just got some at the sporting goods store. And they are a lot smaller than I thought they would be. But the foil take up a lot of space, can I open these and repackage them? Or will they go bad once opened?

I wouldn't repackage them but I do crush the tabs gently inside the foil to save some bulk.

I use them as well. I'm pretty sure they'll start to go bad after they're exposed to air. As mentioned above, you can crush them carefully inside the packet, until they're powdered- I dunno if this affects their performance, but I doubt it.
